Offering the most modern cataract surgery experience.

What to expect for your cataract surgery:

1.  No IV for anesthesia.  Oral sedation allows you to eat, drink, and use all daily medications the day of your procedure.

2.  A quick, less than 10 minute, procedure.  The typical time in the surgery center is 60-90 minutes, which includes sedation, dilation, the procedure, and recovery.

3.  The latest in surgical equipment and lens technology.

4.  Specially compounded post-operative drops provided by us.  You don't have to worry about high co-pays at the pharmacy.

Please reach out to us by phone or email at help@shoreregionaleye.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Our surgery center is located next to our main office.

The address is 9954 N Main Street Unit 2.  Berlin MD 21811

We offer cataract surgery, eyelid procedures (including lifting of the upper eyelids, correction of in-turning or outwards-turning eyelids, growth/bump removals), and minimally invasive glaucoma procedures.

Yes, we offer all varieties of intraocular lenses.

It is very important that we have a science-based discussion regarding lens implant choice rather than a marketing driven one.  Often one will have better vision by not spending thousands of dollars on "upgrades."

All modern cataract surgery is done with ultrasound (We call it "phaco" which is short for "phacoemulsification").  Shore Regional Eye was the first in the area to have the newest ultrasound platform (released in 2025) from Alcon - the Unity.

"Laser-assisted cataract surgery" uses a laser to make the incisions to introduce the phaco machine into the eye.  All research has concluded that there is NO benefit to using laser.  There is no improvement in vision, nor is there an advantage in healing.  For this reason, and because it delivers a tremendous cost to the patient, we do not think it is helpful so we do not offer this service.

Here is the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Technology Assessment regarding this subject.

Most restrictions are aimed around infection prevention and allowing the eye to heal itself closed and scar the lens into position.  Avoid activities that could exposure you to infection (such as swimming, hot-tubs, dusty environments), or activities that produce significant strain (lifting heavy, etc).

We will give you an eye drop that is formulated with all necessary medications into one bottle to make the post-operative eye drops as simple as possible.

We start by having you take it three times per day and gradually decrease this over the course of a month.
